The government has planned to invest 250 billion dollars over the next
five years in coal, power, and renewable energy to meet the power crises
in the country. Addressing a seminar on Challenges in enhancing coal
production in New Delhi today, Power and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal said
that government is also planning to open 40 to 50 coal mines in next
one and half years to increase the production and productivity of coal.
The Minister expressed optimism that one billion tonnes of coal production by #CoalIndia Ltd by 2020 would be achieved. He added that India has more than 300 billion ton coal reserves but its unfortunate the country is still importing coal for outside. The government has set the target of 11.5 percent of coal production in the year 2015. In 2014-15 Coal India Limited,CIL had produced over 494 Million tonnes of coal, registering a production growth of 6.9 percent.
