BHOPAL: A local court in Satna rejected the bail application of former Satna municipal commissioner Surendra Kathuria, who was allegedly caught taking bribe of Rs 12 lakh and gold worth Rs 10 lakh recently.
Kathuria was arrested on Monday by the Lokayukta sleuths while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 12 lakh from a doctor.
Kathuria was produced before the court on Tuesday and was sent to police remand till June 30. He was again produced before the court as his remand ended on Friday.
Kathuria allegedly demanded bribe from a couple Dr Rajkumar Agarwal and his wife Dr Suchitra Agarwal to stop demolition of an illegal construction, say Lokayukta sources.
During the court hearing, Kathuria lost consciousness for some time. Kathuria's counsel told the court that the civic official was implicated under a conspiracy.
The public prosecutors said that the supporters of Kathuria were trying to pressurize the investigating officers and requested the court to dismiss the appeal seeking his bail.
