Mumbai: Twenty-two people including a child were killed and over 39 others seriously injured in a rush-hour stampede in Mumbai that broke out when thousands took a narrow foot overbridge (FOB) connecting the Parel and Elphinstone Railway Stations in South-central Mumbai on Friday.




The Railway Ministry has ordered a probe into the tragedy, though it said in a statement later in the day that the stampede was caused by the sudden rain.







Several passengers tried to draw the attention of the Rail Minister and the Prime Minister through tweets but it was ignored.

Twelve people were killed and 22 people were killed on Friday at Elbriston railway station overhead bridge. At least 30 people were injured. Many of those injured were seriously injured. The Shiv Sena-BJP alliance has come up with a sharp criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. The Shiv Sena has accused the BJP government of following the bullet train project and emphasized the security of ordinary people.Shiv Sena workers gathered outside the KEM Hospital shouted slogans against Goyal and demanded his resignation, when the Minister visited the hospital to meet the injured commuters undergoing treatment there.

Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant wrote to the then Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to repair the overbridge. Suresh Prabhu had also promised to build overbridge. Sawant said Friday that no maintenance has been done after one year. The bullet train is not a safe overbridge in the upcoming city.
