41 ‘minor’ girls rescued from ashram in north Delhi’s Rohini

DCW chief Swati Jaihind on Thursday along with a panel of lawyers formed by the court inspected an ashram in Delhi. Over forty girls were rescued and were allegedly kept in illegal confinement.

According to a report by Hindustan Times - “The CWC interviewed all the girls and rescued 41 of them who clearly looked like minors. All the girls and women there appeared in a trance like they were drugged. Steps also need to be taken to rescue the adult women who are left there,” she said.

The allegations came to light after a raid was conducted on Tuesday evening following a Delhi High Court order on a PIL filed by an NGO — Foundation for Social Empowerment. The NGO had, in its petition, maintained that several minors and women were allegedly being illegally confined at the “spiritual university”.

Irked over the counsel’s statement, the court wished to know about the whereabouts of Virender Dev Dixit, referred to as the founder and spiritual head of the ashram.

Woman moves Madras HC claiming to be Jayalalithaa’s daughter

Claiming to be the biological daughter of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, a woman on Thursday moved the Madras High Court seeking that the body of AIADMK leader be cremated as per the Vaishnavite brahmin community rituals.Jayalalithaa died on December 5 last year after prolonged hospitalisation and her body was buried off the famous Marina Beach here. In her present petition, the woman sought a direction to the state government to permit the family members to cremate Jayalalithaa’s body as per Hindu rites on the grounds that she was an Iyengar Brahmin. She also sought police protection for her and her family members at the time of cremation.

According to Indian express report state Advocate General Vijay Narayan said she had no connection with the late chief minister and even for a DNA test, the court has to arrive at a prima facie case. He contended that the petition was not maintainable in the absence of any authority to say that she was the legal heir of Jayalalitha…

CBI court verdict on 2G case poses some tough questions for Vinod Rai

After A Raja was found not guilty of conspiring and executing what has been described as one of India's biggest scams, his wife and daughter broke down in court. Along with Mr Raja, who is a former telecom minister, M Kanimozhi, the daughter of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, was also acquitted. The party said "Victory begins now. With political motives this case was put in us. Conspiracies were hatched against us but all have been blown away now".

The 2G scam, first highlighted by the national auditor in a report in 2010, was one of a series of corruption swindles that tainted the government of Dr Manmohan Singh, which was voted out after two consecutive terms in 2014.

In November this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the 93-year-old DMK chief who has been sick for several years in Chennai, and suggested he use the PM's residence in Delhi to recuperate.  The visit was seen as an indicator that Mr Modi and his party, the BJP, are not averse to an alliance with t…

Alcohol That Doesn't Give You A Hangover May Be A Real Thing Soon, Experts Say

Experts may have found a form of alcohol that doesn't give you a hangover, and it could be available to the masses sooner than you think. If you ask me, that's reason enough to celebrate the new year this holiday season.

Professor David Nutt, of the Imperial College of London, is the man we can credit to saving us all and instilling hope in the future once more. His hangover-free alcohol comes from a patent he created called alcosynth, a substance which mimics the effects of alcohol without inducing all of the dreadful symptoms of that next-day hangover. Professor Nutt expressed his confidence about the product to International Business Times UK, claiming it will actually revolutionize the way we approach drinking and partying altogether.

People living in western countries are likely to quit alcohol in around two decades after they switch to a synthetic substance that mimics alcohol but does not harm people or cause hangovers.Nutt said, adding, “Alcosynth will become the prefer…

The erstwhile Infosys CEO, Vishal Sikka, had quit abruptly in August after a prolonged public spat with primary founder NR Narayana Murthy.

Is it good to drink white wine?

Research has shown that drinking white wine helps keep lung tissues healthy. Cons: White wines are the most acidic, meaning they're the worst for your teeth. In addition, whites contain far less of the heart-healthy and cancer-preventing antioxidants than reds do, and have about the same amount of calories.

Drinking white wine could increase your risk of skin cancer. ... Researchers believe that white wine contains acetaldehyde, a carcinogenic compound. But unlike their clear-colored counterparts, red winescontain antioxidants that can mitigate these cancer-causing chemicals

Drinking a light or moderate amount of white wine may help you shed extra pounds. Other effects of wine consumption may negate these weight loss benefi…

Proposed Missouri hyperloop would forge 25-minute connection across the state

It might still seem utterly futuristic and the technology is still really to be proven, but more and more government bodies around the world are getting behind the idea of a hyperloop. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MDOT) is the latest to latch onto the idea of supersonic tube travel, heading up a coalition of public-private partners to push for the construction of a hyperloop that would allow for a 25-minute trip across the length of the state.

To travel from Kansas City on Missouri's western border to St Louis on its eastern frontier currently takes just under four hours by car along the I-70 interstate highway. A hyperloop system connecting the two cities, via the central city of Columbia, would make it entirely possible to live in one and work, study and play in the other, with the estimated trip time coming in at 24.9 minutes.

That is still a ways off, but the proposal first made two years ago by MDOT to transport startup Hyperloop One is starting to gain some serio…
