Popular Bollywood star Salman Khan is tightly guarded today, following a death threat he received on Jan 5.

India Today reported that Salman was threatened by a gang leader from Rajasthan, Lawrence Bishnoi, who made a statement that he would kill Salman in Jodhpur, and was promptly detained by Indian police.

In his statement, Bishnoi who has been taken to court said: "Salman Khan will be killed in Jodhpur and then he will know who we really are.

“I can flee from police custody any time.”

Bishnoi has been involved in more than 20 criminal cases over the last few years, including extortion, kidnapping and attempted murder.

Jodhpur police commissioner Ashok Rathore said they had tightened security for Salman and would make sure he was “safe from harm”.
