Tamil Nadu governor apologises to woman journalist for pat on cheek, she's 'not convinced'



NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu’s governor apologised to a woman journalist for patronisingly patting her on the cheek recently, but after the apology, the scribe says she’s “not convinced” of the reason he cited.

“Your Excellency, I have with me your letter expressing regret at what happened at the press conference in Chennai the previous day. I accept your apology, even though I am not convinced about your contention that you did it to appreciate a question I asked,” wrote the journalist Lakshmi Subramanian on Twitter.The governer has sent a reply which Lakshmi has published on her twitter account.

Kanimozhi, DMK party shared on twitter that even if the intention is above suspicion, a person who holds a public office has to understand that there is a decorum to it and violating a woman journalist’s personal space does not reflect the dignity or the respect which should be shown to any human being.
DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Wednesday said Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit should resign from the post or the Centre should recall him to Delhi, saying that his activities had proved that he was not fit to be in the position.
Banwarilal Purohit (born April 16, 1940) is an Indian politician from Nagpur region of Maharastra,born in Jhunjhunu District of Rajasthan. He is the incumbent 20th Governor of Tamil Nadu. Having been appointed as the Governor of Tamilnadu on 30 September 2017, he assumed office on October 6, 2017.
