In a surprise development, Minister of State for External Affairs Gen. (Retd.) V.K.Singh has reached Pyongyang for talks with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) government, the official Korean newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported on WednesdayDuring the visit on May 15-16, that was previously unannounced, Mr. Singh met with DPRK Vice President Kim Yong Dae, and the Foreign and Culture ministers on “a range of issues covering political, regional, economic, educational and cultural cooperation between the two countries,” a statement from the MEA said.
This visit of VK Singh was shocking because in the last 20 years it was the first visit of an Indian minister. In the noise of the election results of the Karnataka Assembly, the visit did not get much attention in the media but this tour is of special significance.
It has not been clear yet that General VK Singh met North Korean leader Kim Jong-or he did not. This visit of VK Singh was very anonymous.
