E-cigarettes are likely to get banned in India soon, Livemint reports. That’s because the health ministry has classified electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) including e-cigarettes, e-sheesha, and flavoured hookahs as ‘drugs’, official sources told the publication. Government data shows India has 460 e-cigarette brands, all of which are unlicensed and brought into the country illegally. The matter is contentious: some organisations claim vapes help with smoking cessation, but the government contends that they pose health risks just like conventional cigarettes.
