Will Aaditya Thakrey become chief minister of Maharashtra ?

MUMBAI: The 288-member Maharashtra Assembly will go to the polls on October 21 while the results will be declared on October 24 . Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray, the elder son of party chief Uddhav Thackeray, on Monday said he will contest the October 21 Maharashtra assembly polls from Mumbai's Worli.

Aaditya will become the first member of the Thackeray clan ever to contest an election. Ever since the Shiv Sena was founded by late Bal Thackeray in 1966, no member of the family has contested any election or held any constitutional post.

Aditya Thackeray, a BA and LlB, is the grandson of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray and has a younger brother, Tejas Thackeray. He will be the first member from the Thackeray family to enter the electoral fray after Shalini Thackeray, the wife of Jeetendra Thackeray, a cousin of MNS founder Raj Thackeray, who had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The announcement comes amid obvious indications by the Shiv Sena that it is eyeing the top post in the state, with Uddhav recently saying that he made a promise to his late father Bal Thackeray to install a 'Shiv Sainik' (party worker) as the chief minister of Maharashtra.

However recently, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while speaking at an event had said that BJP is ready to offer the post of Deputy CM to Aditya Thackeray if the Shiv Sena bags the highest number of seats. Also recently Anjana Om Kashyap made a staement that he will be the Rahul Gandhi of Congress.Observers says that BJP and Shiv Sena will go separately in the Assembly election in Maharashtra. In 2014, also both parties fought election separately and joined hands after result. This time also history is likely to be repeated.
Even today, senior party leader Sanjay Raut said that Sena will ensure that the young Thackeray reaches the 6th floor of the Mantralaya (Chief Minister's office) on October 21, just moments after Aaditya announced his decision to enter the poll fray.
