Wajahat Habibullah is the former Chief Information Commissioner who earlier has also served chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities.
He was Divisional Commissioner of eight districts of the Kashmir
Division in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir between 1991 and
1993.
Given his experience of working in the state, he has written three books on Kashmir. Vocal in his criticism of revoking Article 370 by the Centre in August last year, Habibullah had said that he was unsure as to how the new step of the Modi government would help in reducing or checking terrorism in the state. He had called the government's decision to convert J&K in a Union Territory "regressive and unwise".
