New Delhi: Railways has rejected media reports that it is preparing to allow begging at railway stations and trains. Officials said no such proposal was being considered by the railways. There have been reports in some media that there is a move to amend the provisions of the Railway Act 1989 to make begging on trains and stations non-criminal. There were also reports that the provisions for punishing beggars would be waived. These were rejected by the Ministry of Railways.
