Kerala Kasaragod food poisoning was due to Shigella infection



KOZHIKODE: The heart and brain of the teenager were infected by the Shigella bacteria.However, the final test result from the laboratory is still awaited and is expected on Wednesday, authorities of Pariyaram Medical College Hospital, Kannur, informed.. More than 58 people got sick due to food poisoning . Meanwhile the test conducted by the laboratory shows presence of E.Coli Bacteria. The test report for Shigella and Salmonella will be made available to the Health Department.

Health department and food safety department authorities have stepped up surveillance and enforcement activities as part of preventive measures against the food poisoning caused in the area.

Shigella infection is an intestinal infection caused by Shigella bacteria. The main symptoms include diarrhea, often with traces of blood and mucus in the stool, stomach pain and fever. It is spread through contaminated food and water and can also be spread by direct contact with feces from an infected


 person.
