Drishyam 2, starring Ajay Devgn, is a disappointing sequel that fails to bring anything new to the table and simply rehashes the plot of the original film.
In Drishyam 2, the sequel to the original 2013 Malayalam-language film, we see Vijay Salgaonkar, played by Ajay Devgn, once again trying to outmaneuver the police as they investigate him for a crime. The film, which is available on streaming platforms, has a runtime of 140 minutes and follows Salgaonkar as he tries to evade the authorities with the help of an accidental witness, a limited-run book, and two undercover cops. While the sequel may be technically proficient, it lacks the excitement and intrigue of the original, as the story of the cable operator turned movie exhibitor and his family has already been told numerous times in various languages, leaving little room for surprise.
In Drishyam 2, twists and turns play a significant role in the plot, but ultimately fail to add any real excitement to the film. The audience is aware of the protagonist's thoughts and actions, making it easy to predict what will happen next. Despite this, Ajay Devgn gives a strong performance as the surly and secretive Vijay Salgaonkar, whose movie theater business is thriving and who is planning to enter film production. However, when the new inspector-general of Goa Police, played by Akshaye Khanna, arrives and reopens the case of a murdered teenager, the Salgaonkar family becomes the focus of the investigation, leading Vijay to try to mislead the police and deflect suspicion.
