Gyanendra Pratap Singh, a 1991 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, will become the next Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam. He currently holds the position of Special DGP, Law and Order, and will take over from Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta when he retires at the end of February. Singh, who is part of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, was recently in Central deputation and returned to Assam as the Additional DGP in December 2019 amid the anti-CAA protests. He has previously worked for the National Investigation Agency and the Special Protection Group. A notification from the Home Department has confirmed Singh's appointment, which will become effective on February 1st, following Mahanta's retirement. Singh has expressed his gratitude and stated that he will continue to serve the people of Assam to the best of his abilities.
