YS Sharmila detained for controversial remarks against Telangana CM KCR, faces charges under IPC and SC/ST POA Act

On Sunday, YS Sharmila, the leader of YSRTP, made contentious comments about Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), referring to Telangana as India's Afghanistan and KCR as its Taliban. During a media interaction in Mahabubabad, Sharmila stated that KCR was a ruthless dictator and that there was no Indian constitution in Telangana, only KCR's constitution. It may be noted that Telangana Police detained YS Sharmila on Sunday for allegedly making inappropriate remarks about Mahabubabad MLA and BRS leader Shankar Naik.

In order to prevent any possible law and order issues in Mahabubabad, YS Sharmila was taken to Hyderabad by the police. She has been charged under section 504 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to intentional insult with the intention of provoking a breach of peace, as well as section 3 (1) r of the SC/ST POA Act.

During a gathering on Saturday, YS Sharmila criticized the Mahbubabad MLA for not fulfilling his promises, saying, "The promises you made to the people have not been fulfilled. You don't fulfill your promises." It means you are castrate." This led to the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) staging a sit-in against Sharmila in the district. They expressed their displeasure towards the YSTRP chief on the street by chanting slogans of "Sharmila go back" and burning the party's hoardings and flex.
