4th March 2023: TMC MP Mahua Moitra criticized senior advocate Harish Salve for requesting a thorough investigation against US-based short seller Hindenburg Research. Hindenburg's recent report on the Adani group allegedly caused market turbulence last month. The Supreme Court has since ordered a time-bound investigation into the matter, appointing a six-member panel to investigate the recent Adani Group shares crash and other regulatory aspects related to stock markets.
Moitra accused Salve of supporting Adani and making money from the company. She tweeted that Salve should continue to represent Adani in court, but should not act as an independent expert on news channels. The Adani Group has denied the allegations, stating that it complies with all laws and disclosure requirements.
The Supreme Court panel, led by former Supreme Court judge AM Sapre, has been asked to submit its report in a sealed cover within two months. The other members of the panel are OP Bhat, retired Bombay High Court judge JP Devadhar, KV Kamath, Nandan Nilekani, and Somasekharan Sundaresan.
