Naroda Patiya Case: All 67 accused acquitted, sparking mixed reactions and heightened security measures

In the Naroda Patiya case, the police in Ahmedabad raised security measures at the Bhadra Civil and Sessions Court complex following the special court's acquittal of all 67 accused on Thursday. Family members of those acquitted celebrated the verdict with chants of "Jai Shri Ram" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai." However, the ruling was met with criticism from the Muslim community, and Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of the AIMIM, targeted the ruling BJP party in Gujarat with a poem by Rahat Indori. In a tweet, Owaisi sarcastically stated that the BJP was "the appeal, the argument, the witness, and the lawyer." The acquitted individuals included former BJP MLA Maya Kodnani and former Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi, with 18 other accused having passed away during the trial. One person was released in 2009 due to mistaken identity. The Naroda Patiya case involved the lynching of 11 Muslims in Ahmedabad following the burning of 58 kar sevaks in the Sabarmati Express. In 2008, the Special Investigation Team filed a charge sheet against 86 individuals, and all were acquitted by Special Judge Shubda Bakshi on Thursday.
