Mughal-E-Azam-The Musical,' India's first Broadway-style musical, is set to make its US debut

After more than 200 performances across six Asian countries, 'Mughal-E-Azam: The Musical' is premiering in North America, starting its 13-city tour in Atlanta on May 26. The stage adaptation of the classic Bollywood film is India's longest-running Broadway-style production, directed by Feroz Abbas Khan and produced by the Shapoorji Pallonji Group. Presented in North America by Cinema on Stage, the show blends India's cultural traditions with a timeless love story. The director expressed excitement for the international tour after the pandemic-induced lull and promised a passionate and diligent performance by the crew, along with captivating choreography by Mayuri Upadhya.

"When we approved the 'Mughal-E-Azam: The Musical' project seven years ago, we never imagined it would be such a success, running for 19 seasons and traveling to multiple countries. Its emotional core and the love story of Salim and Anarkali are what make it universally beloved," said Deepesh Salgia, Creative & Strategic Vision for the musical. The musical, featuring a cast and crew of over 150 people, is India's most expensive theater production, with intricately choreographed dance sequences, spectacular lighting, exquisite costumes by Manish Malhotra, and live singing. After its 2016 premiere in Mumbai, it received critical acclaim and won seven out of the 14 BroadwayWorld India Awards in 2017, including Best Play, Best Director, Best Costume Design, Best Choreography, Best Original Set Design, Best Original Lighting Design, and Best Ensemble Cast. Shapoorji Pallonji is thrilled to bring this musical play to North America, a country that prides itself on creating a global ecosystem for theatrical production, concludes Deepesh Salgia.
