What is Sengol ?

Sengol is a sceptre that holds great significance as a symbol of power and authority, reminiscent of its use in ancient South Indian kingdoms. It is a “significant historical” symbol of Independence as it signifies the transfer of power from the British to the Indians. The sceptre gets its name from the Tamil word ‘semmai’, meaning righteousness.

On 28th May the new parliament building is inaugurated PM Modi and Sengol is placed in the new parliament House by him and Loksabha Speaker.

HOME minister Amit Shah in a tweet said '
