Maharashtra Cabinet Reshuffle: NCP Ministers Gain Key Portfolios, BJP Faces Departmental Losses

On Friday, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, made an announcement regarding the expansion of the cabinet and the allocation of departments to newly sworn-in ministers who joined the state government on July 2. This development occurred two weeks after nine leaders from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), including Ajit Pawar, took their oaths as ministers in Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar, who became the Deputy Chief Minister, was assigned the finance and planning ministries. The newly-appointed NCP ministers were also assigned various portfolios on the same day.

It's important to note that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had formed a coalition with the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde to establish the Maharashtra government last year, and Devendra Fadnavis, a senior BJP leader, was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. However, in a negotiation with Ajit Pawar of the NCP, the BJP, along with the Shinde-led Shiv Sena, relinquished several departments.
