Divya Deshmukh, born on December 9, 2005, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, is an accomplished Indian chess player holding the titles of International Master and Woman Grandmaster. Notably, she clinched victories at the 2022 Women's Indian Chess Championship and the 2023 Asian Women's Chess Championship. In addition, she earned an individual bronze medal at the 2022 Chess Olympiad and contributed to the gold medal-winning FIDE Online Chess Olympiad 2020 team. As of September 2023, she holds the 7th rank among women chess players in India.

Recently, Divya addressed the sexism and misogyny she encountered from spectators during the Tata Steel Masters in Wijk Aan Zee, where she emerged as the top finisher in the women's rapid section. She highlighted the disparity in praise, noting that male players were commended for their gameplay, while female players faced judgment based on their clothing, hair, and appearance. Divya expressed enduring this discrimination for five years, emphasizing that her tolerance had reached its limits.
