A group of men allegedly killed feared criminal Sharad Hiraman Mohol in Pune’s Kothrud on Friday over a money-related issue.
The victim, who lived in Sutardara, was shot and taken to the Sahyadri hospital in Kothrud, where he died, the police said. The police have named Sahil alias Munna Polekar, also from Sutardara, as the main accused and are looking for him and his accomplices. “It seems that the assault on Sharad Mohol was the result of a financial conflict within his own gang,” said Retesh Kumaarr, Pune City Police Commissioner.
Hemant Patil, senior police inspector of Kothrud station, said that three or four men fired at Mohol around 1.30 pm. “We have sent police teams to track down the attackers,” he said.
Sharad Hiraman Mohol was a notorious gangster in Pune, who was involved in several cases of murder, attempted murder, and extortion. He was also accused of killing a suspected terrorist, Qateel Siddiqui, in Yerawada jail in 2012, but was later acquitted in 2019. He was shot dead by some of his rivals on Friday, January 5, 2024, over a financial dispute.
The officials of Kothrud station are filing an FIR in the matter. At the same time, a large crowd of Mohol's followers assembled at Sassoon hospital, where his corpse was taken for autopsy.
Mohol, who faced 15 grave offences, was accused of killing Qateel Siddiqui, a presumed member of Indian Mujahideen and a terror suspect, in June 2012 and was cleared of the charge in June 2019.
