After prolonged deliberation, the Maharashtra government officially named Rashmi Shukla, a seasoned IPS officer from the 1998 batch, as the new Director General of Police (DGP) on Thursday. Notably, she is the first woman to assume this role in the state. Shukla, presently serving as the Director-General of Seema Sashastra Dal, takes over from the retired DGP Rajnish Sheth, who stepped down on December 31. Prior to this appointment, she has held key positions, including the Director of the State Intelligence Department, in her distinguished career. The interim charge was held by Mumbai Commissioner of Police, Vivek Phansalkar.
