Controversy Erupts as Gobi Manchurian Faces Ban in Mapusa, Goa: Health Concerns and Unhygienic Practices Lead to the Prohibition

In a surprising turn of events, the beloved Gobi Manchurian has been banned in Mapusa, Goa, following a suggestion by Tarak Arolkar, a councilor from the region, during the Bodgeshwar Temple Jatra last month. The council swiftly supported the proposal, resulting in the prohibition of this popular dish. This isn't the first time such action has been taken; Gobi Manchurian faced a ban in 2022 as well.

The primary reason behind the ban revolves around the use of synthetic colors in Gobi Manchurian. The excessive use of these harmful colors to achieve the desired red hue raised health concerns, prompting the authorities to take decisive action.

Furthermore, concerns about hygiene and cleanliness played a significant role in the ban. Instances were reported where street vendors utilized spoiled cabbage for Gobi Manchurian, neglecting basic hygiene standards. Additionally, the accompanying chutney failed to meet quality standards. A recent raid by the Food and Drug Administration uncovered cases of unhygienic preparation, including the use of washing powder in the sauce for Gobi Manchurian, further justifying the ban.
