The Election Commission declared Ajit Pawar's faction, led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, as the legitimate Nationalist Congress Party. In response to the disputed internal organizational elections, the poll body instructed the Sharad Pawar group to choose a new name for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Maharashtra, citing the "test of legislative majority" in favor of Ajit Pawar's faction.
