Ravi Kishan Shines in Maamla Legal Hai: A Hilarious Blend of Legal Drama and Political Intrigue on Netflix
Ravi Kishan is having an exceptional week, following his entertaining portrayal as a police inspector in Kiran Rao's film, "Laapataa Ladies." Now, he takes center stage in the Netflix series "Maamla Legal Hai," where he becomes the heart, soul, and comedic essence of the show.
Set in the fictional Patparganj sessions court in Delhi, the series introduces Kishan as VD Tyagi, a slick lawyer with his own chambers, a group of colleagues, and two interns playfully nicknamed "Law" and "Order." Tyagi is wholly dedicated to winning the upcoming Delhi Bar Association election. To achieve this goal, he pulls strings, ingratiates himself with Supreme Court luminaries, and constantly tries to outsmart his rival, Phorey (Yashpal Sharma).
The narrative also delves into the lives of other characters connected to the small cases presented in the court. Sujata (Nidhi Bisht), a litigation novice with dreams of having her own chamber, Vishwas (Anant Joshi), who manages the roster and oversees daily operations, and newbie advocate Ananya (Naila Grewal), armed with an American degree and a noble ambition to represent clients pro bono.
The eight episodes juxtapose Tyagi's election campaign with cases reflecting real-life, absurd demands on the legal system. Tyagi's relentless pursuit of victory is consistently portrayed with wit and insight, overshadowing the courtroom proceedings. In "Maamla Legal Hai," director Rahul Pandey and showrunner-producer Sameer Saxena skillfully assemble a cast that supports each other seamlessly. Naila Grewal, portraying the justice-seeking lawyer with a Harvard degree, reveals the moral dilemmas some lawyers face when handling cases, highlighting the distinction between law and justice. The series navigates a universe where these two ideals are not always synonymous, mirroring the complexities present in both "Maamla Legal Hai's" universe and the real world.
