Fresh off her Best Actress Oscar win for Anora, Mikey Madison has landed her next major role in Reptilia, a unique thriller directed by Alejandro Landes Echavarría (Monos). She’ll star alongside Kirsten Dunst in this indie feature, which promises a dark dive into Florida’s exotic animal trade.
Based on a script by Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman, Reptilia follows a dental hygienist seduced by a mysterious mermaid into a shadowy underworld. The film, backed by Pastel (Moonlight), Imperative Entertainment (Killers of the Flower Moon), AF Films, and Landes Echavarría’s A Stela Cine, is financed by Black Bear and will launch sales at the Cannes Film Market. Filming begins this fall.
Madison, also known for Scream and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, continues her indie streak after earning BAFTA and Independent Spirit Awards. Dunst, a Cannes Best Actress winner for Melancholia, brings her versatile gravitas following Civil War. Posts on X buzz with excitement, calling the duo’s pairing “deliciously unsettling.”
Reptilia blends surreal folklore with gritty crime, positioning Madison and Dunst for a haunting collaboration. Stay tuned for updates on this intriguing project.
