Delhi University’s Ramjas College Shuts Hostels for 2025 Session, Citing Safety Concerns Amid Student Outrage

Ramjas College of Delhi University has decided to keep its boys’ and girls’ hostels closed for the upcoming academic session, sparking strong backlash from student organizations and raising concerns about the university’s infrastructure.

The hostels, which can accommodate around 150 students, will not see new admissions this year due to safety issues, according to Principal Ajay Arora. In an interview with The Indian Express, Arora explained, “A hostel room’s roof collapsed last year, and there’s a dent in one of the buildings. Post-exams, we evacuated the hostels immediately. We plan to engage a government agency for a safety audit and will only issue a new merit list for admissions once we receive clearance. We cannot jeopardize students’ safety.”
