Kochi, June 6, 2026 — Just over a month after its successful theatrical release, the much-talked-about Malayalam action-comedy Athiradi is all set to make its digital premiere on Sony LIV on June 19.

Directed by debutant filmmaker Arun Anirudhan, the film stars Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph in lead roles, with a supporting cast that includes Darshana Rajendran, Riya Shibu, Zarin Shihab, Jeo Baby, Vishnu, and Shelvin.

The story revolves around Samkutty (Basil Joseph), a passionate and determined college student at BCET College who is on a mission to revive the institution’s once-glorious but now-forgotten cultural festival. His well-laid plans take a chaotic and hilarious turn when he crosses paths with Sreekuttan Vellayani (Tovino Thomas) — an eccentric, goon-turned-musician with a larger-than-life personality. Their clash of ambitions, egos, and worldviews forms the core of the film, delivering a heady mix of campus drama, high-energy action sequences, and rib-tickling comedy.

The movie has been praised for its breezy entertainment value, sharp humour, energetic performances by the two leads, and fresh take on campus rivalry blended with unconventional action-comedy elements. Tovino Thomas’s quirky character and Basil Joseph’s earnest underdog portrayal have particularly received appreciation from audiences.

A Thiradi marks yet another collaboration between two of Malayalam cinema’s popular stars and is produced under a promising banner. Its theatrical run saw decent footfall, especially among youth and family audiences looking for light-hearted masala entertainment.

With its digital release on Sony LIV just weeks after hitting theatres, the film is expected to reach a wider pan-Indian audience through the streaming platform. Sony LIV has been aggressively expanding its Malayalam content library, and Athiradi joins a growing list of recent Malayalam successes available on the service.

Fans can mark their calendars for June 19 to stream the full-length action-comedy that promises non-stop entertainment, memorable dialogues, and high-spirited rivalry between its two dynamic protagonists.
