A driver has been suspended after a video emerged of a langur monkey at the steering wheel of a bus in southern Karnataka state, India.

Gajapayana heralds start of Mysuru Dasara 2018

Gajapayana, the traditional march of elephants from the forest, began at Veeranahosahalli Gate of the Nagarahole National Park in Hunsur taluk between 10 am and 10.30 am today at Tula Lagna, signalling the beginning of Dasara 2018. It will be the first Dasara for JD(S)-Congress coalition headed by H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The elephants will arrive in Mysuru today and will camp at Aranya Bhavan (Forest Department office) in Ashokapuram till Sept.5 when they will be welcomed at the Mysore Palace at 4.30 pm. Earlier, the welcome was planned on Sept.3 (tomorrow) at 11 am but was put off due to the counting of votes cast for Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) scheduled tomorrow.

The first batch of five elephants comprised Howdah Elephant 58-year-old Arjuna from Balle Elephant Camp, 62-year-old Varalakshmi from Mathigodu and 45-year-old Vikrama, 35-year-old Dhananjaya and 36-year-old Gopi from Dubare Elephant Camp. After the traditional start of Gajapayana, the elephants began their journey to Mysuru in trucks. 47-year-old Chaitra will join the team in Mysuru directly from Bandipur Tiger Reserve and she was not part of the Gajapayana today.

Bengaluru: New trouble for Mohd Nalapad, charged for land encroachment

Bengaluru, Mar 16: Mohammed Haris Nalapad has again landed in fresh trouble, this time regarding a land encroachment case.

Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF), on basis of a complaint by BBMP revenue officials, has filed a first information report (FIR) on February 23, against Nalapad and 17 others for encroaching three acres and 29 guntas of land near KPCC head office in Vasanth Nagar.

“The BBMP commissioner has registered complaints that 33 properties in Millers Tank Bund have been encroached upon and Mohammed Nalapad is also among the accused. Currently, the documents are being verified and the accused have been directed to produce their documents for verification. Action will be taken after the document verification,” BMTF ADGP Prashant Kumar Thakur told a newspaper.

Mohammad Haris Nalapad has been in the news for anything but the right reasons. A man who was previously looked up to as a youth icon, has now been stripped of his political powers, or so we hope.

According to Bangalore Mirror, Mohammed Haris Nalapad, who is currently locked up in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, seems to have learnt no lessons. He has now allegedly assaulted his own accomplice after an argument broke out between them inside the prison. Meanwhile, senior high court advocate Shyam Sundar who represented the victim Vidvat has approached police commissioner T Suneel Kumar seeking protection after he heard someone say that “he will also get the same treatment”.

Karnataka: Man builds temple dedicated to wife, worships her in it

While most husbands whine about how their wives are making their lives miserable, this farmer from Karnataka's Chamarajanagar district built a temple to worship his wife in.

Raju alias Rajuswamy built a temple in Krishnapura village, Yelandur taluk, because it was his wife's ardent wish. But after she dies, Raju installed her idol, along with four other deities, to worship her.

Rajamma was his sister's daughter.

According to Times of India Raju told , " My parents were against our marriage. Somehow, we got married as my sister and brother in law didn't oppose us. A few days after the marriage, my wife said she wanted me to construct a temple in the village. But before the completion of the temple, she passed away. So, I decided to install her idol in the sanctum sanctorum."

Raju took around two years to build the temple and completed it in 2006. He has been offering prayers for the past 12 years. On being asked what inspired him of building a temple of his wife, the farmer told Times of India, "She predicted her death well in advance. She had a special power. She was a spiritual kind of person and was always dreaming about a temple. These things convinced me that I should build a temple and worship her as a deity.”

Congress Leader Accused Of Sprinkling Petrol In Office

A Congress leader is seen sprinkling what could be petrol inside a government office in Bengaluru and threatening an officer in a video that has embarrassed the ruling party at a time it is facing condemnation over a lawmaker's son beating up an injured man.

In a mobile phone video filmed on Friday, Congress leader Narayanaswamy is seen splashing some liquid in an office of Bengaluru's civic body BBMP or Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. Wearing all-white, the politician is also seen pouring the liquid on a revenue officer's desk. The officer, Chengal Rayappa, is seen pleading with the politician.

A police complaint has been filed against Narayanaswamy and the liquid is being tested to see if it was petrol.

Cong MLA’s son, friends assault man at hotel; expelled for 6 yrs

A Congress MLA's son, himself a Congressman, and his friends allegedly assaulted a man at a restaurant here, following which he was expelled from the party for six years.

Police said Mohammed Harris Nalapad and his 10 friends beat up the man at a restaurant in UB City late last night after they felt offended over him extending his feet, cast in plaster, towards the table they were sitting at.

Nalapad's whereabouts were not known.

The man, identified as Vidwat, has been hospitalised, police said.

Nalapad, general secretary of Bengaluru District Youth Congress, is the son of Shantinagar MLA N A Harris.

Police said an FIR has been registered against Nalapad and his friends.

The MLA described the incident as unfortunate.KPCC president Dr G Paramaeswara tweeted Mohammed Harris Nalapad, general secretary of Bengaluru city Youth Congress, has been expelled from the Congress party for 6 years. "Atrocities in any form is not tolerated in @INCKarnataka. Legal actions have been taken against those responsible. The victim will be served justice," he tweeted.


According to a story published in Bangalore Mirror , The investigation wing of the Income Tax Department has busted a fraudulent tax refund scam in Bengaluru in which a practicing chartered accountant was found to be filing false income tax returns and making fraudulent refund claims.

I-T sleuths searched the CA’s office on Wednesday established his modus operandi. The CA is said to have filed revised returns of salaried employees making false or inflated claims of loss from ‘house property’ and thus claiming refund fraudulently. He has filed nearly 1,000 returns claiming loss from ‘house property’ aggregating to Rs 18 crore.

Some of these employees are said to be working in over 50 reputed companies in the city including IBM, Vodafone, SAP Labs, Biocon, Infosys, ICICI Bank, CISCO, Thomson Reuters India Limited. The tax authorities questioned the employees and found that they had resorted to fraudulently claiming refunds by filing revised returns on their individual income.

According to an official release, the salaried employees have admitted that they did not suffer any real loss under the head ‘Income from house property’.

Karnataka Government transferred M.V. Jayanthi and Shivayogi C. Kalasad

The Karnataka Government on Tuesday transferred two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers in the state. The transferred officers are; M.V. Jayanthi and Shivayogi C. Kalasad. Regional Commissioner, Jayanthi, IAS (K1,1988) has been transferred with immediate effect and posted until further orders as Principal Secretary to Government, Planning Programme Monitoring and Statistics Department in the existing vacancy. Meanwhile, Commissioner Land Acquisition, Shivayogi C. Kalasad, JAS (KN:2004) Resettlement Rehabilitation, Upper Krishna Project is transferred with immediate effect and posted until further orders as Regional Commissioner, Bengaluru Division, IAS transferred. The post of Regional Commissioner, Bengaluru Division, Bengaluru has been declared equivalent in status and responsibilities to the cadre post of Secretary, Karnataka Public Service Commission under Rule 12 of AS (Pay) Rules, 2016 in the Senior Scale of IAS as included in the Schedule II-B of the said Rules. Kalasad is also placed in concurrent charge of the post of Commissioner. Land Acquisition, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Upper Krishna Project, Bagalkot until further orders.

Bengaluru's Bellandur lake catches fire again

#BENGALURU: Bellandur Lakein South East Bengaluru, infamous for its severe pollution levels, caught fire once again on Friday morning.
Residents living around the lake reported huge clouds of smoke emitting from the highly polluted lake. Authorities are in the process of dousing the fire and the exact cause of the fire on the lake is yet to be ascertained

Mathai meets Karnataka Chief Secretary, wants action against IAS officers

BENGALURU: According to Indian Express , K Mathai, Administrative Officer and Under Secretary to Government, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) met Chief Secretary Subhash Chandra Khuntia on Monday and lodged a complaint demanding action against IAS officers who allegedly harassed him.
