Anupam Kher named FTII's new chairman

Veteran actor Anupam Kher will take over as chairperson of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), replacing actor Gajendra Chauhan, whose appointment to the post in 2015 sparked controversy.

KK Venugopal to be new Attorney General

NEW DELHI: Senior advocate K K Venugopal's name has been cleared for appointment as the Attorney General for India following the decision of Mukul Rohatgi to step down as the top law officer.

The proposal to appoint the 86-year-old veteran lawyer as the successor of Rohatgi was discussed before the departure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his recent visit to the US, Portugal and the Netherlands.

"Venugopal had a meeting with Modi before his departure to a three-nation
," sources said.

When contacted today and asked about his priorities as the Attorney General, Venugopal said "I will speak only after the notification is issued."

44 High Court judges set to be appointed

While 29 candidates are from the Allahabad High Court, the rest are from Karnataka (2), Calcutta (7) and Madras (6) High Courts.

The government is learnt to have initiated the process for appointing 44 High Court judges after initially having returned their names to the Supreme Court collegium for reconsideration on two occasions.

Minister upset over delay in appointment of VCs BENGALURU

Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi has expressed disappointment over the delay in the appointment of Vice-Chancellors of Bangalore University and the University of Mysore. “Although it has been several months since the State government appointed search committees, they still have not finalised the Vice-Chancellors,” he said on Tuesday. Currently, both these universities have acting Vice-Chancellors.

Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar appointed new Director General of CRPF

NEW DELHI: Senior IPS officer Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar was appointed as the new Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Wednesday. His appointment comes two days after the CRPF lost 25 jawans in the deadly Sukma attack.

Bhatnagar will be replacing acting DG Sudeep Lakhtakia.

Currently, Bhatnagar serves as DG of the Narcotics Control Bureau - an ADG rank post which has temporarily been upgraded to a Special DG rank.

Bhatnagar belongs to the 1983 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS).

In another key appointment, R K Pachnanda was appointed as DG of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). He'll be taking over from Krishna Chaudhary, who is set to retire in June this year.

Pachnanda is serving as DG of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), India's specialized force for responding to natural disasters and CBRN emergencies
