India is planning to sell a major chunk of Vijay Mallya’s unpledged shares in United Breweries

India is planning to sell a major chunk of Vijay Mallya’s unpledged shares in United Breweries. The aim: raise more than ₹4,300 crore, almost half of what the self-exiled Mallya owes lenders. The Stock Holding Corporation of India has already transferred 4 crore of Mallya’s shares (15% of his holding in UB) to the Enforcement Directorate. Dutch brewer Heineken could use this as an opportunity to up its stake in UB from the current 43%. The Centre is trying to extradite Mallya back to India and a UK court is currently hearing the matter.

New Delhi: Liquor baron Vijay Mallya who is wanted in India for defaulting on loans worth Rs 9,000 crore has been arrested by the Scotland Yard in London. He will be produced before the Westminster Magistrates' Court there.
Mallya, who has been declared an absconder in India, is likely to be extradited and a team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will visit the United Kingdom soon.

The reason for the arrest of the 61-year-old former liquor and aviation tycoon is not known.
Mallya, who arrived here in March last year and had his Indian passport revoked, would appear before the Westminster magistrates court later in the day, the sources said.

Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Villa sold to actor-businessman Sachiin Joshi

Unable to sell the property through auction, the 17-lender consortium of banks led by the State Bank of India, will dispose Vijay Mallya's famous property named Kingfisher Villa through a negotiated sale to actor businessman Sachin Joshi for a price marginally higher than Rs 73 crore, the lower reserve price of the last auction in March 2017.

The lender consortium had been attempting to sell the palatial villa since March 2016, after getting possession of the property.

However, with the reserve price of Rs 85 crore, the villa did not find any buyers, while, bringing down the price to Rs 81 crore was also futile.

The 32-year old actor, and now owner of the villa, is the vice chairman of JMJ Group and Viking Media and Entertainment.
