Gujarat home department on Monday promoted four Gujarat cadre IPS officers as Director General of Police (DGP) from the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP). The IPS officers are Vipul Vijoy, AK Surolia, Mohan Jha and TS Bisht. With the promotion of these officers, Gujarat now has nine DGPs. Vijoy, a 1983-batch officer who was accused of illegally confining junior staff members at his home while serving as ADGP (Communication), was denied a promotion in the last round.
He has been serving as ADGP (traffic) and will now head it as DGP. Similarly, 1985-batch IPS officer AK Surolia has been promoted to DGP, Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS). Another 1985-batch IPS officer Mohan Jha, serving as ADGP (administration) has been promoted as DGP in the same department. T S Bisht, 1985-batch IPS officer, who was serving as ADGP and Inspector General of Prison will now head it as DGP.
Following the superannuation of Gujarat’s first woman In-charge DGP Geetha Johri, IPS officer Pramod Kumar had taken over the charge. Now, the state has nine DGPs including Pramod Kumar (in-charge DGP, Inspector General of Prison), AK Singh (Police Commissioner, Ahmedabad), Tirth Raj (Law & Order), Shivanand Jha (Intelligence), Ashish Bhatia (CID Crime), Vipul Vijoy (State Traffic Branch), AK Surolia (ATS), Mohan Jha (Administration) and TS Bisht (Prison).
