Fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi has given up his Indian citizenship, official sources said. Choksi, among the prime accused in the ₹13,500 crore Punjab National Bank fraud, surrendered his Indian passport to the authorities in Antigua, where he has been holed upsince July 2018. An unidentified government official told India Today that the extradition process had nothing to do with citizenship and “any accused of any nationality can be extradited,” citing the recent example of Christian Michel, who was extradited in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam.
