Sedition case:Delhi Police files chargesheet against Kanhaiya Kumar

Delhi Police on Monday filed a chargesheet against former JNU Students Union (JNUSU) President Kanhaiya Kumar and nine others in a sedition case after some students shouted “anti-national slogans” in February 2016.

The chargesheet filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Sumeet Anand also names former student activists Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya.

Kumar “thanked” police authorities and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for filing the chargesheet in the sedition case just ahead of Lok Sabha elections as it exposes political motivation.

“If the news is true that a chargesheet has been filed, I would like to thank police and Modi Ji. The filing of chargesheet after 3 years, ahead of elections clearly shows it to be politically motivated. I trust the judiciary of my country,” he said.

Meanwhile, police have filed the 1,200-page chargesheet against Kanhaiya Kumar and other student leaders in the sedition case which involved usage of anti-national slogans by them in February 2016.

Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya were arrested for allegedly organising an event in JNU campus to protest against the hanging of Parliament attack mastermind Afzal Guru. A huge controversy erupted after the episode and soon became a political slugfest.
