Azim Premji is logging out. The Wipro czar will step down on July 30 after 53 years at the helm to devote more time to philanthropic activities. He will be succeeded by son Rishad as chairman and CEO Abidali Neemuchwala as managing director. Premji will continue with the IT firm as non-executive director and remain chairman of Wipro’s non-IT businesses. He has already committed two-thirds of Wipro’s shares to charity, creating an endowment worth ₹1.45 lakh crore. In an email to employees, the frugal billionaire thanked “Wiproites across generations” for their “deep commitment and hard work” (see letter).
