Bengaluru: Former deputy chief minister of Karnataka and former KPCC president G Parameshwara's PA has committed suicide. Ramesh Kumar has been found dead. There was extensive searches at his residence and other institutions over the past two days amid complaints of massive irregularities in the admission process of the Parameshwara chairman medical college. Ramesh Kumar was also questioned in connection with the case.
The Income Tax Department had reported that the raid was worth over Rs 100 crore. Meanwhile, Ramesh Kumar is found hanging.
Ramesh Kumar was found hanging in a garden near the Jnana Bharti police station near Bangalore. Ramesh Kumar was questioned in connection with the raid till last night. But Parameshwara had told Ramesh Kumar not to be scared. However, the Income Tax department says that till now Ramesh Kumar's statement has not been recorded or interrogated. The Congress, however, reinforced the allegation that the suicide was a result of torture by the Income Tax Department. The body of Ramesh Kumar has been shifted to the hospital for post-mortem.
According to National Media, The raid had revealed that there was a major irregularity in the admissions process at the medical college at Tumakuru. For each of the 185 seats in the college, up to Rs. This was in excess of the merit criteria. The Income Tax Department has found that Rs. 5 crore has been collected by depositing in benami accounts on behalf of college employees. Four and a half crore crores of cash was seized. According to the Income Tax Department, 89 lakhs of uncollected money was recovered from the house of the chief trustee alone. The raids have been conducted at the homes and institutions of Parameswara and former Union Minister RL Jalappa for the past two days.
Thirty centers were inspected in Bengaluru and Tumakuru. Parameswara's response was to correct anything that went wrong. The Congress too had come to the conclusion that the raid was politically motivated.
