Citizenship Amendment Bill: What does it do ?

The Lok Sabha has passed the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) with Union home minister Amit Shah affirming that an all-India National Register of Citizens (NRC) was now on the anvil

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019. The Bill amends the Citizenship Act, 1955 to make illegal migrants who are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, who entered India on or before 31 December 2014, eligible for Indian citizenship.
