Is DigiLocker a government app?

DigiLocker is an online service provided by Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), Government of India under its Digital India initiative. DigiLocker provides an account in cloud to every Indian citizen to access authentic documents/certificates such as driving license, vehicle registration, academic mark list in digital format from the original issuers of these certificates. It also provides 1GB storage space to each account to upload scanned copies of legacy documents.


Users need to possess an Aadhar card to use DigiLocker. For sign-up, the Aadhar card number and the one-time password sent to the Aadhar-associated mobile number, need to be entered. For later log-ins, the user can set their own password or link the account to Facebook or Google logins


Is DigiLocker accepted by traffic police?



Bengaluru Traffic Police officials clarified that motorists in the city can show documents stored on Digilocker, the national Digital Locker System, during traffic police checks.

The clarification comes after reports suggested that traffic police officials would fine motorists Rs 2,000 if they are not carrying a hard copy of their vehicle insurance. The Traffic Police's official Twitter account caused the confusion while replying to queries of multiple users of the social media platform on Thursday.

How to use DigiLocker ?


1. Go to DigiLocker website or downloand DigiLocker app on your smartphone. Using your Aadhaar number and mobile number you can create a user ID using an OTP.

2. If some organisation has uploaded any of your e-documents, you can see it in the account. You can also upload your own documents and e-sign them.

3. You also get the facility of sharing documents with others by sharing a link to the e-document.
