In honor of the occasion, PM Modi wrote a blog post about his mother, highlighting the sacrifices she made and the ways in which her life and personality had influenced his own development. Hiraben was originally from Palanpur and moved to Vadnagar after marrying Damodar das Modi at the age of 13. In Vadnagar, she was known for treating small children and women with home remedies and was referred to as Dossi Maa by her family. In her later years, Hiraben lived with Modi's younger brother, Pankaj, at Raysan village near Gandhinagar. PM Modi would often visit his mother at this location when he was in Gujarat.
