Azam Khan's Son Abdullah Azam Disqualified as MLA After Two-Year Jail Sentence

Abdullah Azam, the son of Azam Khan, has lost his membership of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly after a court sentenced him to a two year jail term. This has come as a major setback for the Samajwadi Party leader and his son, who had previously been a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).

The court's decision follows Abdullah Azam's conviction in a 2017 case related to the illegal occupation of a government plot in Rampur. He was found guilty of forging documents and presenting false evidence to claim ownership of the plot. The court has now revoked Abdullah Azam's MLA membership as a result of his conviction. This marks the first time that an MLA has been stripped of their membership due to a court sentence. Azam Khan and the Samajwadi Party have yet to comment on the court's decision, though it is expected that they will appeal the sentence. Nevertheless, the court's ruling is a major setback for the party and Azam Khan's ambitions to gain a foothold in Uttar Pradesh politics.
