New Study Ranks Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh as States With Most Comprehensive EV Policies

According to a recent study by Climate Trends titled 'Analysis Of State Electric Vehicle Policies And Their Impact', Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh offer the most extensive electric vehicle policies, including budget allocations, charging infrastructure, and job creation. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Kerala, and Uttarakhand have the least comprehensive EV policies with only three to seven of the 21 defined parameters. Out of the 26 states and Union Territories that released their EV policies over the last five years, 16 were released between 2020 and 2022, with none of the eight states that released their policies before October 2020 on track to achieve their EV targets. Only nine states have mandated the creation of charging infrastructure in new buildings, and the electrification of public transport is lagging across all eight states studied. The study highlights the need for better regulation, monitoring, and stakeholder capacity building across the policy value chain to ensure a successful transition to zero-emission transport in India.
