"Anurag Kashyap's 'Kennedy' Selected for Midnight Screening at Cannes 2023, Rahul Bhatt Steps in as Lead Actor"
Anurag Kashyap has traveled to France to attend the Cannes Film Festival 2023, where his film titled "Kennedy" is scheduled for a premiere. During an interview at the festival, the acclaimed filmmaker discussed the initial selection for the movie, which involved an actor named Vikram. Anurag revealed that Vikram, who was recently featured alongside Aishwarya Rai in Mani Ratnam's "Ponniyin Selvan: II," shares a unique association with the film's title. Anurag disclosed that Vikram's nickname is Kennedy.
Kennedy, directed by Anurag Kashyap, was chosen for a Midnight Screening at the Cannes Film Festival 2023. The film stars Rahul Bhatt, Sunny Leone, and Abhilash Thapliyal in prominent roles. It revolves around the story of an insomniac ex-cop believed to be deceased, who embarks on a quest for redemption.
During an interview with Film Companion at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival, Anurag Kashyap disclosed that Rahul Bhatt was not his initial pick for the film. He shared, "When I wrote this film, I actually had a specific actor in mind, which is why the film is titled Kennedy."
When further queried about the actor's identity, Anurag revealed, "Because that actor's nickname is Kennedy. The film was initially named the Kennedy Project. It is Chiyaan Vikram. Chiyaan Vikram's real name is Kennedy. I approached him, but he never responded. So, I then approached Rahul. I asked him to read the script, and his reaction was enthusiastic, not just as an actor. He inquired, 'Who is doing this role?' I replied, 'Will you do it?' He asked, 'Me?' I affirmed, 'Yes, but you will need to give it your all.' Despite having committed to other projects, Rahul dedicated eight months of his life to Kennedy."
