After a two-month exclusivity on iOS, OpenAI's AI chatbot, ChatGPT, has now made its debut on Android. The rollout of the Android version will occur in phases, starting with availability in the US, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil. OpenAI plans to extend access to more countries in the following week. The ChatGPT app for Android is free to download, but users can opt for an optional subscription to unlock additional features and access the enhanced large language model, GPT-4.
To get the ChatGPT app on Android, non-pre-registered users can simply head to the Google Play store, where it is 6MB in size, and download it. Pre-registered users will only need to update the app. The app is compatible with devices running Android 6.0 or later.
The Android version of ChatGPT brings chat history and syncing support, replicating the features available on the desktop version. Users can sign up for a free account or choose the option to access the premium GPT-4 model.
Initially exclusive to Apple's iOS, ChatGPT garnered significant popularity in the tech world after its public release in November last year. It allows users to generate text content by entering queries and prompts, leveraging AI to provide tailored answers and advice.
However, a recent report by Similarweb highlighted a decline in traffic to ChatGPT's website and a drop in unique visitors in June. Despite this, the Android app's launch aims to expand ChatGPT's user base and accessibility across the globe.
