Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu was shifted to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) office in Vijayawada in the early hours of September 10 after being taken to a hospital for medical tests following a 10-hour-long interrogation.
The series of event in the arrest -
- On September 9, Naidu was arrested by the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the alleged Skill Development Corporation scam.
- He was taken to the CID's SIT office in Kunchanapalli for interrogation.
- The interrogation lasted for 10 hours.
- At 3:40 am on September 10, Naidu was taken to the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada for medical tests.
- The tests lasted for about 50 minutes.
- After the tests, Naidu was taken back to the SIT office.
The case is related to the alleged misappropriation of funds from the Skill Development Corporation during Naidu's tenure as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The CID has accused Naidu of being the "principal conspirator" in the scam. The Income tax dept. Investigated the case and found money laundering and illegal money transfer which caught the attention 18 months back
Naidu has denied the allegations and has called the arrest a political witch hunt. He has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
The arrest of Naidu has sparked protests from the TDP and its supporters. The party has called for a statewide shutdown on September 11.
The case is still under investigation and it remains to be seen whether Naidu will be charged with any wrongdoing.
