Malayalam actor Vinayakan, who is known for his roles in films like Jailer, Kammatti Paadam and Thimiru Pudichavan, was arrested by the Ernakulam North Police on Tuesday evening for allegedly creating a ruckus at the police station in a drunken state. The actor had reached the station around 7:30 pm and started to verbally abuse the police officials present there. He was also accused of smoking at the station.
According to the police, Vinayakan had contacted them earlier in the day, reporting a dispute with his wife at their apartment on Stadium Link Road⁴. The disagreement reportedly revolved around a financial matter⁴. When the police arrived at the apartment, Vinayakan allegedly exhibited inappropriate behaviour towards the officers. After listening to both Vinayakan and his wife, the police left the place. There have been frequent fights between Vinayakan and his wife, the police said⁴.
Despite being instructed to appear at the police station on Thursday, Vinayakan unexpectedly showed up on Tuesday evening and caused a commotion. The police endured his unruly behaviour for about 20 minutes before arresting him⁴. He was then taken to a nearby hospital for necessary medical examination, which confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol
The police have charged him with bailable offence for causing disturbance and disrupting the operations of the police station. However, this is not the first time the actor has found himself in the midst of a storm. Earlier this year in June, he was booked for making derogatory remarks against late CM Ooomen Chandy during his funeral procession
Meanwhile, Vinayakan, while leaving with the police from the hospital after his medical examination, told mediapersons that he was unaware why he was arrested². When asked about the reason for his arrest, the actor said, "I came to file a complaint. Please ask the police why I was brought here (hospital)"².
Vinayakan is a popular actor in Malayalam cinema, who has won several awards for his performances. He is also part of the upcoming Gautham Menon-Vikram film Dhruva Natchathiram, in which he is once again playing a negative role.
