Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh)– The city of Bhopal has been grappling with a disturbing rise in crimes against women and girls over the past few days. On Wednesday, two more incidents of sexual assault were reported from the Aishbag and Nishatpura areas, adding to the growing concern among residents and authorities alike.
In the first incident, a 30-year-old married woman from Aishbag was allegedly raped by an acquaintance, Rajendra Vishwakarma. The accused reportedly lured the victim to his rented accommodation under the pretext of important work, where he committed the assault and filmed the act. He then used the video to blackmail the victim for money. Unable to bear the torment, the woman lodged a police complaint on Wednesday. The police have launched a search operation to apprehend Vishwakarma.
The second incident involved a 23-year-old woman from the Karond area, who was allegedly raped by her college mate, Sandeep. The accused had promised to marry her but reneged on his promise, leading the victim to take legal action. The police are actively searching for Sandeep.
These incidents are part of a worrying trend in Bhopal, where the number of reported cases of sexual violence has been on the rise. According to recent data, the city has seen a significant increase in such crimes, with 381 cases registered so far this year. This marks a 10% surge compared to the previous year, highlighting the urgent need for effective measures to ensure the safety of women and girls in the city.
The police have assured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to apprehend the accused and bring them to justice. However, the rising number of incidents has left many questioning the effectiveness of current safety measures and the overall security environment in Bhopal.
As the city continues to grapple with these challenges, it is crucial for authorities to implement stronger protective measures and for the community to remain vigilant and supportive of victims coming forward to report such crimes.
