India is gearing up to become a trusted link for global trade and connectivity through the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), according to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. Speaking at a recent event, Goyal shared an exciting vision for the IMEC, describing it as a major partnership between India, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe that’s catching the world’s attention.
Goyal called the IMEC a “modern Silk Route,” but with a fresh twist. Unlike old trade paths, this corridor is about equal teamwork to boost trade, connection, and growth for everyone involved. He explained that the IMEC could make shipping goods up to 30% cheaper and 40% faster, creating smooth trade links across continents.
More than just moving goods, the IMEC will bring people and cultures closer, connecting Southeast Asia to the Gulf, the Middle East to Central Europe, and even improving links to Africa through the Middle East. Goyal highlighted that this corridor isn’t just about business—it’s about building bridges between civilizations.
With the IMEC, India aims to play a big role in making global trade easier, faster, and more inclusive. This bold project shows India’s commitment to working with other nations for shared success and a connected world.
