amilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay has formally written to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), requesting that any future questioning in the ongoing Karur stampede case be conducted within Tamil Nadu, such as in Chennai or other locations in the state. This appeal comes amid his busy schedule tied to the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The case stems from a tragic stampede at a TVK rally in Karur on September 27, 2025, which resulted in 41 deaths and numerous injuries.
Recent developments show that despite his request for a deferment and local inquiry, Vijay appeared before the CBI in Delhi multiple times. He was questioned for about 7 hours on March 15, 2026, marking his third session since January. The CBI took over the probe following Supreme Court directions, and Vijay has maintained that his party was not responsible, pointing instead to administrative lapses.
The incident has drawn significant attention, with the Tamil Nadu Police initially accusing TVK leaders of inadequate precautions and violations of regulations. Other party functionaries, including a DMK MLA, have also been summoned for questioning.
