Who are Muthulakshmi Reddy?



On July 30, the birth anniversary of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy This time Google made this decision on the occasion of his 133th birth anniversary.

Muthulakshmi Reddy was the first female legislator of India, along with the country's first woman surgeon.

Muthulakshmi Reddy, working in the field of health, worked closely to balance gender equality and to improve the lives of girls.

The Tamil Nadu government had announced on Monday that it would celebrate every year on 30th July as 'Hospital Day'.

Muthulakshmi Reddy was born in 1886 in Tamil Nadu. At the time when the British government was in India, Dr. Reddy became the first woman to work as a surgeon in the government hospital. Along with this, she became the first female legislator.

The trend of child marriage was very common at the time the Muthulakshmi Reddy was growing up. But Muthulakshmi opposed it and persuaded her parents to educate her.

Muthulakshmi studied at the Maharaja College of Tamilnadu, till that time that college was for boys only. After this he became the first female student to enter the Madras Medical College.

Dr. Reddy sought to increase the age fixed for marriage while working in the Madras Legislative Assembly, along with that he also raised voice against the persecution of the girl child.

It is said that Dr Reddy's sister had died due to cancer, after which she started a cancer institute in Chennai in 1954.

In today's world, it is one of the largest cancer hospitals in the world, where thousands of cancer patients are treated every year.



In 1956, Dr. Reddy was awarded Padmabhushan by the Government of India for his service and work. Dr. Reddy died in 1968 at the age of 81.
